Free inspections help kick off Child Passenger Safety Week
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - In partnership with the Automotive Safety Program, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI), Safe Kids Allen County announced today its participation in the national and statewide 2015 Child Passenger Safety Week, by hosting a free Car Safety Seat Clinic Saturday at Jefferson Pointe.
"Proper child seat usage saves lives, and knowing how to install a child seat and when to transition to the next available seat, or into a traditional seat belt, is vital to keeping children safe while riding in automobiles," said Safe Kids Allen County Coordinator Carmen DeBruce.
Child Passenger Safety Week is an annual event supported by federal funding allocated to Safe Kids Allen County from the ICJI Traffic Safety division. According to ICJI, in 2014, 246 Indiana children under the age of 13 were injured, and 4 children died, from being unrestrained in an automobile accident. Further statistics show that nationally, 71 percent of car seats are not used correctly.
