1/18/2023
Trista Poehler and Irishjoy Zintsmaster, registered nurses at The Orthopedic and Lutheran hospitals respectively, were winners of the national 2022 Nursing Excellence Awards.
Poehler and Zintsmaster are two of ten national winners selected across the organization’s affiliates including Lutheran Health Network facilities.
The Nursing Excellence Award was created to honor the critical role nurses have played in treating patients throughout the pandemic. The peer-nominated award program was open to qualifying RNs and licensed practical nurses working in a direct patient care position who consistently demonstrate characteristics of nursing excellence including outstanding care, compassion, service and innovation. Nominees are also demonstrated team players and/or mentors to others; leaders in times of crises; and someone who regularly promotes health in the community.
Poehler joined The Orthopedic Hospital in 2006. She frequently receives positive feedback that she puts patients at ease, answers all their questions and shows compassion and professionalism. And in addition to her stellar patient care, Poehler regularly steps up as a leader to take on extra projects helping to improve internal processes.
Zintsmaster joined Lutheran Hospital’s cardiovascular intensive care unit in 2007 and in that time has been nominated for multiple unit-based recognition awards. She is frequently described by coworkers and patients as a selfless leader who goes out of her way to help others and shows compassion and professionalism in all circumstances.
In addition to the Nursing Excellence Award, both nurses also received a cash prize and a copy of Shining the Light on All the Right – Celebrating the Art of Nursing Around the World by Mark and Bonnie Barnes, co-founders of The DAISY Foundation, an international movement created to recognize and express gratitude for extraordinary nursing.
