Lutheran Hospital Kicks Off Nurses Week with Unique Design “boRN to Nurture” Created By Local Nurse
5/7/2026
Lutheran Hospital begins its annual Nurses Week celebration honoring the dedication, clinical excellence and compassion of its nursing staff. This year’s festivities are anchored by a custom-designed commemorative shirt that highlights the unique calling of the profession and its deep roots in Northeast Indiana.
The 2026 theme, “boRN to nurture,” was developed by a staff nurse, Allison Dettmer, who sought to capture the heart of the nursing vocation. The design features a clever play on words, emphasizing the “RN” initials to celebrate the professional identity and pride of the nursing team.
“Nursing is such a deeply nurturing profession, and I’ve spoken with so many nurses who truly feel they were born for this calling,” said Dettmer. “The idea clicked to celebrate both the heart of what we do and the pride nurses carry in their profession every single day.” The artwork includes the state of Indiana, representing Lutheran Hospital’s commitment to the region, alongside evergreen elements that symbolize life, growth and strength. Dettmer also reflected the modern workforce, including a gender-neutral aesthetic to ensure the entire nursing team feels represented.
The celebration extends across Lutheran Health Network, featuring employee recognition, staff appreciation and community focused activities for all locations.
