Lutheran Hospital Appoints Dr. Dillon Bannis as Chief Medical Officer

Lutheran Hospital, the flagship facility of Lutheran Health Network, announced the appointment of Dr. Dillon Bannis as its new chief medical officer (CMO). Dr. Bannis officially assumed the role on Dec. 1, 2025, and will be responsible for leading the hospital’s clinical strategy, ensuring the highest standard of patient safety and quality care, and serving as the primary liaison between the administration and the medical staff.
Dr. Bannis brings several years of distinguished experience in clinical practice in obstetrics/gynecology, medical leadership and healthcare administration to Lutheran Hospital. He completed his residency at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Chicago before becoming an attending physician at the same institution. He transitioned into hospital administration at Mercy as chief of strategic operations and chief medical informatics officer.
Most recently, Dr. Bannis was the chief medical officer and chief medical informatics officer for Insight Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago. Dedicated to patient-centered care and community health, Dr. Bannis has also led initiatives that improved access, quality and outcomes across Chicago’s South Side. Dr. Bannis served on the Near South Planning Board for Insight Hospital, advancing neighborhood-focused health planning and partnerships.
He has received awards in Excellence in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Excellence in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Bannis also received the Health Achievement Award for his work with healthcare improvements for the city of Chicago.
