Lutheran Health Physicians roster grows by 8

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (August 15, 2019) - Eight new providers specializing in the areas of kidney transplantation, pediatrics, electrophysiology, trauma surgery, neonatology and cardiology are the most recent additions to the Lutheran Health Physicians team. Ahmad Safra, M.D., is a member of the Lutheran Health Network surgery team specializing in kidney transplantation. Prior to joining LHP, he completed a general surgery residency at Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, and a fellowship in abdominal multi-organ transplantation at Thomas Jefferson University hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Safra's office is located in Suite 200 of Medical Office Building Two, 7910 W. Jefferson Blvd., on the Lutheran Hospital campus.
Dr. Safra earned his doctor of medicine from the University Of Damascus School of Medicine, Syria, in 2006. He completed a general surgery residency at Damascus University Hospital and worked as a General Surgeon in Damascus prior to relocating to the United States.
Dr. Safra is a member multiple national and international professional organizations including the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. He has contributed to various publications, covering topics including kidney and liver transplantation.
Dr. Safra is a dedicated community volunteer, previously serving as a member of Syrian Red cross/Red crescent where he had special interest in mobile clinics to rural areas and blood donation campaigns where he was a regular blood and platelet donor.
Babak Salimi, M.D., is a board-certified pediatrician who treats infants, children and adolescents with chronic or acute illnesses and manages their physical, mental and emotional well-being. Prior to joining Lutheran Health Physicians, Dr. Salimi worked as a pediatric critical care specialist at Peyton Manning Children's Hospital in Indianapolis. His office is located at 285 W. 12th St., Suite 102, in Peru.
Dr. Salimi completed a bachelor's degree in biochemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a master's degree in biology/immunology from Northern Illinois University in Chicago, before graduating with a medical degree from St. George's School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. He furthered his professional training with a pediatric residency at Indiana University School of Medicine and Riley Children's Hospital, as well as a pediatric critical care fellowship at the former Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
Dr. Salimi is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has contributed to several publications covering numerous pediatric topics.
Stephanie Clouse, FNP-C, is a member of the Lutheran Health Physicians cardiac electrophysiology team. As an electrophysiology nurse practitioner, she specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the heart's electrical system that may cause the heart to beat irregularly. Clouse, a certified family nurse practitioner, previously worked for a hospitalist service with experience in adult internal medicine. Her office is located at 7916 W. Jefferson Blvd., on the Lutheran Hospital campus.
Clouse graduated from Ivy Tech Community College in Fort Wayne with an associate degree in nursing before earning her bachelor's degree in nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion. She remained at Indiana Wesleyan University to complete her master's degree in nursing, primary care, in 2017.
Ford Lee, N.P., is a nurse practitioner who treats patients with severe, life-threatening blunt force and penetrating injuries. As a member of the Lutheran Health Physicians trauma surgery team, Lee assists surgeons as they operate on patients who are critically injured and oftentimes suffering from multiple injuries to the colon, pancreas, spleen and/or stomach. His office is located in Suite 306 of Medical Office Building One, 7900 W. Jefferson Blvd., on the Lutheran Hospital campus.
Prior to joining LHP, Lee was a registered nurse in emergency services at Lutheran Hospital. He also served as a platoon sergeant and multiplex radio chief for the United States Marine Corps for several years.
Lee earned both a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree in nursing, nurse practitioner, from Purdue University in Fort Wayne. He is a member of the Coalition of Advanced Practice Nurses of Indiana and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Chimi Nusbaum, NNP-BC, is a neonatal nurse practitioner in the neonatal intensive care unit, where she provides care for premature and ill newborns.
Nusbaum earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from Goshen College in Indiana before completing a master's degree, nursing for neonatal nurse practitioner, from the University of New York at Stony Brook.
Prior to joining Lutheran Health Physicians, Nusbaum served as a neonatal nurse practitioner at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, where she was responsible for assisting critical care infants.
Nusbaum is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Nu Omicron-at-Large) and the National Academy of Neonatal Nursing.
Erin Richmond, N.P., is a nurse practitioner at the anticoagulation clinic, where she assists patients who are prescribed anticoagulant or other blood-thinning medications. Her office is located at 2510 E. Dupont Road, Suite 108, on the Dupont Hospital campus.
Prior to joining Lutheran Health Physicians, Richmond assisted patients suffering from acute stroke, encephalopathy and multiple sclerosis as a nurse practitioner with Fort Wayne Neurological Center.
Richmond received both an associate degree and a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne before completing a master of science, family nurse practitioner, from Purdue University Calumet. She is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Regina Rogers, NNP-BC, is a neonatal nurse practitioner in the neonatal intensive care unit, where she provides care for premature and ill newborns.
Rogers graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Ball State University in Muncie before completing a master's degree, neonatal nurse practitioner, from Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis.
Prior to joining Lutheran Health Physicians, Rogers served as a board-certified neonatal nurse practitioner for both Northern Indiana Neonatal Associates in Fort Wayne and Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend.
Wendy Vanstone, NNP-S, is a neonatal nurse practitioner in the neonatal intensive care unit, where she provides care for premature and ill newborns.
Vanstone earned dual bachelor's degrees, one in biomedical sciences from Western Michigan University and one in nursing from Valparaiso University, before completing a master's degree, neonatal nurse practitioner, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Prior to joining Lutheran Health Physicians, she worked as a neonatal nurse practitioner for Northern Indiana Neonatal Associates in Fort Wayne. She also served as a neonatal intensive care flight nurse for Lutheran Hospital.
