To help address hunger in the community and in celebration of National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day April 2, Lutheran Health Network hospitals and facilities throughout northeast Indiana collected more than 2,000 jars of peanut and other nut butters for local community food banks.
The jars were donated by Lutheran Health Network employees, medical staff members and volunteers during a recent “Jars of Love” peanut butter drive, which was launched to help support neighbors facing food insecurity – an important social determinant of health.
“Food insecurity has a significant impact on a person’s overall health and wellbeing,” said Nicole Rexroth, Lutheran Health Physicians CEO. “Through our ‘Jars of Love’ peanut butter drive, we are working to help fight hunger in our community. Our generous employees throughout all our Lutheran Health Network facilities really stepped up to be sure we could stock food bank shelves throughout the region”
The following food banks throughout northeast Indiana received the donations:
- Community Harvest Food Bank, 999 E. Tillman Rd., Fort Wayne, Ind.
- Wells County Food Bank, 1254 S. Main St., Bluffton, Ind.
- The Salvation Army food pantry, Parkview United Methodist Church, 1785 State Route 19, Peru, Ind.
- Miami County Helping Hands food pantry, 176 N. Broadway St., Peru, Ind.
- Dane’s Family Food Pantry, Combined Community Services, 1195 Mariners Dr., Warsaw, Ind.
