Lutheran Flight Nurse 1 of 5 RNs Recognized with National Award for Specialty

Lutheran Health Network flight nurse Abigail “Abby” Harvey was recognized today with the 2022 Distinguished Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN®) Award from the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN).
Harvey is a flight RN with Lutheran Air based out of Portland, Ind. She has been with the Network for 23 years and has completed about 400 flights during her tenure. She also worked as director of the intensive care unit for Bluffton Regional Medical Center and supervisor and manager for Lutheran Air and Ground teams.
"We are so happy Abby is being recognized for her outstanding leadership and patient care,” said Scot Tuttle, R.N., executive director for Lutheran Air, Ground & EMS. “She has been a valuable member of the Lutheran Air team since the beginning of the program and has had a significant impact on the care and outcomes of pediatric and adult patients we transport."
Harvey was the only RN selected in the category of flight nurse from what BCEN representatives described as a record number of nominations received. In addition to flight nursing, nominees were recognized in the following specialties: emergency, pediatric emergency, trauma, and critical care. They were honored for their commitment to clinical excellence and professionalism through specialty certification as well as their leadership and innovation in supporting board certification for other nurses in their specialty.
The Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) national board certification is earned by registered nurses demonstrating advanced knowledge, expertise and clinical judgment in flight nursing and is held by more than 5,200 RNs and advanced practices registered nurses delivering exceptional care in the critical care flight setting.
