LHP expands infectious disease and pediatric critical care coverage with the addition of Okon and Patel

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Oct. 5, 2017) - Two new physicians who specialize in infectious disease and pediatric critical care, respectively, have joined the Lutheran Health Physicians team.
Emmanuel Okon, M.D., cares for patients who have contracted an infectious disease. These disorders are caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites. Dr. Okon helps patients manage these disorders by diagnosing diseases, prescribing medication and providing follow-up care.
Dr. Okon earned his medical degree from the University Of Nigeria College Of Medicine in Enugu, Nigeria. Following his graduation, he completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He completed fellowships in infectious disease at Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey, and East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Dr. Okon is board certified in infectious disease and internal medicine. He is a member of the Infectious Disease Society of America, the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Okon is located in Medical Office Building One, 7900 W. Jefferson Blvd., Suite 304, on the Lutheran Hospital campus.
Homestead High School graduate Vinit Patel, M.D., is a board-certified pediatric critical care specialist who treats patients who require continuous attention. As a hospital-based physician, Dr. Patel coordinates care for infants and children with a team of doctors, nurses and other healthcare specialists in the pediatric intensive care unit at Lutheran Children's Hospital.
Prior to joining Lutheran Health Physicians, Dr. Patel worked as an attending physician at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis and IU Health North Hospital in Carmel. He also served as an assistant professor of clinical pediatrics at the IU School of Medicine in Indianapolis.
Dr. Patel earned his medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine, located on the Caribbean island of Grenada in the West Indies. He completed a pediatric residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, and a pediatric critical care residency at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis.
Dr. Patel is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric critical care and is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
He is based out of the pediatric intensive care unit at Lutheran Children's Hospital, 7950 W. Jefferson Blvd.
