20 Lives, One Mission: Lutheran Hospital Reaches All-Time High LVAD Implants
12/30/2025
Lutheran Hospital has reached a record-breaking milestone, performing 20 left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implant procedures in 2025. This achievement underscores the hospital’s position as a regional leader in specialized cardiovascular care and its commitment to improving the quality of life for patients in and around Northeast Indiana.
“Each implant we perform represents much more than a successful procedure; it represents the gift of time. By reaching this record volume, we are directly contributing to the longevity of our community, allowing our patients to return to their families and reach milestones they might not have otherwise seen. It is a privilege to provide the interventions that turn a life-threatening diagnosis into a story of survival and long-term health,” said Asim Mohammed M.D., an advanced heart failure cardiologist with Lutheran Health Physicians.
An LVAD is a mechanical pump that is implanted into patients with severe heart failure to help the heart's main pumping chamber circulate blood to the body. The surge in procedures reflects the growing trust patients place in Lutheran Hospital’s surgical teams and the clinical experience of the cardiac care team.
“Reaching this record number of implants is a testament to the dedication of our surgeons, nurses and support staff,” said Lorie Ailor, chief executive officer of Lutheran Hospital. “More importantly, it represents 20 lives changed. Our focus remains on providing the most advanced technology with the precision and care our patients deserve.”
