Acts of Service
Lutheran Health Network takes pride in supporting community initiatives and health services to help make a positive impact on people living in the place we all call home. Lutheran Health Network provided $1.6 million in 2022 to support area community organizations that are working to fight disease, help vulnerable individuals and families, advance higher education and stimulate economic development. By working together we can overcome the challenges faced by our communities and help all Hoosiers live healthier lives.
A sampling of initiatives we support in the community:
Allen County LHN team members organized a Day of Service at a local elementary school. Projects included mulching, enhancements to an outdoor classroom and creating new fitness stations for the students to increase physical activity.
Dukes Memorial Hospital was recognized with a Community Partnership Award by the Indiana Department of Health for its work with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program. Since 2009, the program has provided 50,000 books to more than 600 children in Miami County.
Fort Wayne’s first Safe Haven Baby Box was dedicated at Lutheran Downtown Hospital. The box provides a mother in crisis an option to safely, securely and anonymously surrender her infant under Indiana’s Safe Haven Law.
Lutheran Health Network continued to provide generous financial support to the Sexual Assault Treatment Support Center which provides medical forensic care to victims of sexual assault in 16 counties across Northeast Indiana.
The team at Bluffton Regional Medical Center collected nearly 600 pairs of socks during their “Socktober” donation event. Socks are one of the most essential (but least donated) clothing items for people in need. The socks were donated to Wells County Food & Clothing Bank for distribution.
A charitable donation to SuperShot promotes vaccination and provides access to immunization community-wide. SuperShot’s vision is community immunity against vaccine-preventable diseases. In addition to a financial contribution, Lutheran Health Physicians provides space to SuperShot to hold vaccine clinics allowing families from underserved communities convenient access to important preventative care.
The Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund provides assistance to financially-eligible residents of Kosciusko County who are suffering from cancer. Assistance includes rent or mortgage payments, utilities, insurance, food, car payments and prescription medications.
In addition to supporting nonprofit organizations, Lutheran Health Network also provides more than $91.5 million in charity and uncompensated care to the region’s most vulnerable.
