St. Joseph Hospital Reinvesting $1.2 Million Into Its Communications Infrastructure

Entire hospital to benefit from new data cable

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Nov. 4, 2011) – Work has begun to equip Fort Wayne’s central hospital with the latest in communications infrastructure. St. Joseph Hospital is reinvesting $1.2 million to replace all of its data cable – 170 miles worth to be exact.

St. Joe is teaming with Votaw Electric of Fort Wayne on upgrades that will enhance the hospital’s ability to transmit digital information more efficiently. The hospital has been aggressively adding new technology over the last year, an initiative that includes a new $1.6 million cardiac catheterization lab and more than a 20 percent increase in the number of mobile and stationary computer workstations.

“From our perspective, downtown revitalization is incomplete if it doesn’t involve a healthcare provider that’s committed to finding ways to add services for those living in and around the heart of the city,” said Eric Looper, chief executive officer, St. Joseph Hospital. “Although it might not always be visible from the street, ongoing technology and facility upgrades over the past decade are essentially helping us build a new hospital from within. This sends a positive message to those who share St. Joe’s passion for improving the community’s core.”

The data cabling project at St. Joe is expected to be finished in August 2012.
