Lutheran Hospital and Physicians Agree to Partner Musculoskeletal Center and FWO Outpatient Services
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (June 11, 2008) — Lutheran Hospital and Fort Wayne Orthopaedics announced today the formation of the Lutheran Musculoskeletal Center, LLC, which consists of inpatient services at Lutheran Medical Park and outpatient services on the FWO campus. FWO will retain the name and ownership of its independent physician practice.
"This relationship with FWO has been contemplated for years," said Joe Dorko, chief executive officer, Lutheran Hospital. "Working together, we will use a multidisciplinary approach to meet the distinctive needs of the orthopaedic patient.
"This is a great opportunity for the physicians of Fort Wayne Orthopaedics to become more involved in determining the way advanced healthcare is provided to our patients," said Michael McArdle, MD, president, FWO. "Adding our outpatient surgical, physical therapy and MRI business with the LMC solidifies our ongoing relationship with Lutheran Health Network to provide a unique experience for all who visit these facilities."
The LMC will have a 10-member board of trustees that will coordinate the care delivered at both LMC locations.
In January 2006, Lutheran Hospital opened a 114,600-square-foot addition to address the special needs of this patient population. The 17,873-square-foot FWO outpatient surgery center, 7601 W. Jefferson Blvd., opened in 1994. The new organization will consist of 10 ORs and 39 inpatient beds. Six of the ORs are located at the LMC and four are located at the new LMC outpatient location, 7601 W. Jefferson Blvd.
The two facilities performed more than 8,000 combined inpatient and outpatient orthopaedic surgeries in 2007. The LMC is fully accredited by the Joint Commission.
