Lutheran and FWO Announce New Name for Ortho Facility
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Jan. 27, 2009) — The newest hospital of the Lutheran Health Network has undergone a name change to better reflect the type of care it provides. Beginning immediately, the Lutheran Musculoskeletal Center shall be known as The Orthopaedic Hospital of Lutheran Health Network.
Officials from Lutheran and Fort Wayne Orthopaedics believe the new name is easier for patients to identify with because it highlights the main specialty of the facility. The two organizations announced in June the formation of the Lutheran Musculoskeletal Center, LLC, consisting primarily of inpatient services at Lutheran Medical Park and outpatient surgical, physical therapy and MRI business on the FWO campus. FWO retained the name and ownership of its independent physician practice.
Since that time, the merging of inpatient and outpatient orthopaedic resources has led to enhanced efficiencies and the elimination of redundancies on the two campuses.
The Orthopaedic Hospital of Lutheran Health Network opened under the name Lutheran Musculoskeletal Center in January 2006 as a 114,600-square-foot addition to Lutheran Hospital addressing the special needs of this patient population. The 17,873-square-foot FWO outpatient surgery center, 7601 W. Jefferson Blvd., opened in 1994.
The Orthopaedic Hospital of Lutheran Health Network consists of 10 ORs and 39 inpatient beds. Six of the ORs are located on the Lutheran campus and four are connected to the FWO physician practice at 7601 W. Jefferson Blvd.
The Orthopaedic Hospital of Lutheran Health Network became a separately licensed hospital Feb. 7, 2008, and is fully accredited by the Joint Commission
