Dukes Memorial Hospital Announces Medical Imaging Upgrades
64-Slice CT Scanner and Fluoroscopy Unit among the upgrades announced
Peru, Ind. (June 8, 2012) – Dukes Memorial Hospital (DMH) is continually striving to be the health care provider of choice for our community and surrounding communities. One way we are striving to be the leaders in the industry is by enhancing our services and investing in improvements to our technology.
Dukes Memorial Hospital is thrilled to announce that our Medical Imaging Department is now offering our patients access to a 64-slice Computed Tomography (CT) Scanner, the only one in the area, and also a state-of-the-art Fluoroscopy Unit.
CT scans are cross-sectional X-ray images of the body, which provide doctors with many views of the body structure in question, such as the brain, neck, spine, chest or abdomen. CT scans assist doctors in diagnosing abnormalities and diseases and monitor treatment. DMH previously used a 32-slice CT scanner and the upgrade to a 64-slice scanner will give the Medical Imaging Department cardiac imaging capabilities, a service not previously available to our patients.
The new Fluoroscopy Unit provides a type of X-ray that views the body or part of the body in motion, often with a contrast dye injection. This unit will be used to examine patients for gastrointestinal problems, to study blood flow for obstructions and to look for fractures, among other uses. The new system is completely digital, with superior image quality and a threefold decrease in radiation exposure compared to the prior system. This provides quicker and clearer imaging, greater patient comfort and enhanced patient safety.
“Dukes Memorial Hospital is excited to be able to provide our patients with access to technology of this caliber. We’re constantly striving to improve our services and programs to make our hospital the hospital of choice and having this technology available to our patients is one illustration of our dedication toward patient safety and providing the highest level of quality care to our patients,” stated Debra Close, CEO.
