CardioRisk (Cardiac Scoring)
Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is the leading cause of death in the United States. When detected early, however, persons affected by CAD often have a better prognosis. At Lutheran Health Network, we utilize technology that can provide you with such early detection that can be life-saving.
CardioRisk (Cardiac Scoring) is a noninvasive, painless scanning technology that measures the amount of plaque buildup in the coronary arteries. The procedure, which usually takes less than 10 minutes to complete and costs only $50, can help predict heart disease in people who appear perfectly healthy.
Fully clothed patients pass through an ultrafast CT scanner that produces images of the coronary arteries. These images are used to help detect the early stages of coronary artery disease.
Who should consider having a CardioRisk scan?
A heart attack can strike anyone, regardless of age or level of fitness. There are risk factors, however, that may indicate a predisposition to heart disease. If you are over 40 with one or more of the following risk factors, CardioRisk might benefit you:
- Family history of early heart disease, heart attack or stroke
- High cholesterol levels
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Smoking
- Obesity and/or prolonged inactivity
- Stress
Persons with documented coronary artery disease should not consider CardioRisk.
CardioRisk is offered throughout the Lutheran Health Network. For additional information or to SCHEDULE, call the facility nearest you.
